We Started With 17. Only 2 Remain

The day has arrived. We are a little more than 24 hours away from the biggest game of the season. February 10th, 2019. Hockey Day in Tampa Bay. In a day full of all things hockey  from street hockey to college hockey, the Lightning Cup Finals will take center stage, putting the cap on Hockey Day as the final game of the day at 8:30pm. The Tampa Bay Lightning organization knows this is a hockey town.

Steinbrenner had the game of the night on Friday, coming back from 2-0 down to score three unanswered goals and to win it in overtime.  Kyle Freiermuht’s goal, nearly four minutes into the third was the catalyst that started the Steinbrenner come back. Three minutes later Kyle Ciaccio found himself on a breakaway where he would be tripped up and given a penalty shot. Check out the goal for yourself on the @TBLHSHL twitter account. It was pretty sweet. All tied up at 2 at the end of regulation and we head to overtime. Shorthanded, Steinbrenner’s Kyle Ciaccio found himself on another breakaway and ending the game right there, thirty seconds in to OT. It was a great team win, the Warriors fought every second of the game and deserved the W. it goes without saying that Plant played a great game behind the work of senior goaltender, Troy Burkhart.

For the second and final game of the night on Friday, East Manatee beat Jesuit 7-1.

Just as they did in the game prior. East Manatee scored three goals in the first, led by Jackson Bennett and Tyler Stowe. The Admirals out shot the Tigers 12-3 in the first period.  Senior goaltender Tyler Moschella played great in net all night with the help of his defense. Folks, as always, do not just look at the scoreboard..look at the scoresheet. Jesuit played hard. They had a phenomenal year but last night, the Admirals’ were the better team.

These two teams have not faced each other this year. Although Steinbrenner won, they struggled against Plant, a team they had also not faced on the year. I cannot wait for tomorrow night ladies and gentlemen. These are easily the two best teams in our league. Great coaching staff’s, great offense, great defense, and 5 sold goalies between the two. I have no idea what is going to happen tomorrow night but I will be there and so should you!
