TAMPA BAY – The Lightning High School Hockey League (LHSHL) today named senior forward Nicholas Walters, No. 18 for the Manatee Admirals, the league’s first Honda Player of the Month.
Walters is receiving this honor after helping lead the Admirals to a perfect 3-0 record in September, recording six goals and five assists. Son of Doug and Kimberly Walters, some highlights included both a power play goal and a game-winning goal in a season opening victory over Jesuit High School.
Along with his outstanding play in the LHSHL, Walters managed to receive a stellar 3.96 GPA for the month, and is a member of the Gulf Coast Flames – U18 Eastern Junior Elite Prospects League (EJEPL) team. Similar to the LHSHL, the EJEPL aims to expose players to on-and-off-ice training techniques that will help them succeed at the highest level possible.
Before its recent change to the LHSHL, Walters was a member of the 2014-15 Admirals team that won the Florida High School Hockey Association (FHSHA) Lightning Conference Championship with a dominating 10-3 victory over the Mitchell Mustangs, as well as the Statewide Amateur Hockey of Florida State Championship for combined teams.
“Honda partners with the NHL on a national level and the local Honda Dealers are excited by this opportunity to extend this partnership to the grass roots level. As part of this relationship we look forward to supporting local hockey families and recognizing outstanding talent like Nicholas Walters,” said Michael Speigl, President, Gulf Coast Honda Dealers.
Walters will receive a personal replica of the LHSHL Honda Player of the Month award, and will have his name permanently engraved on the LHSHL Honda Player of the Month award to be displayed throughout the season at Amalie Arena.
