River Ridge Forward, Steinbrenner Goalie Collect Honors

The Lightning High School Hockey League (LHSHL) today announced the Stars of the Month, presented by Honda, for the month of December. River Ridge’s Hayden Hutner was named the Honda Player of the Month, and Steinbrenner’s Marcus Benzrihem was named the Honda Goalie of the Month.

Hutner, a forward for River Ridge, finished December with four goals and three assists in just three games. His seven points were among the league leaders for the month.

Hutner has continued his strong play all season, averaging just over a goal per game with 18 goals in 16 games. His 29 points are 11th among all LHSHL players.

Benzrihem finished December 3-0-0 for Steinbrenner, posting a 0.33 goals against average and a .983 save percentage. He allowed only one goal in three starts for the Warriors, stopping 59 of 60 shots he faced. He posted a shutout against the Tampa 92’s on December 2nd and against Seminole on December 18th.

With Benzrihem shutting the door in net, Steinbrenner surged into a wild card playoff spot, sitting just two points back of Palm Harbor for the second spot in the Bradley Division. Benzrihem is also a big part of the Warriors’ penalty kill, which ranks third in the LHSHL at 87.8 percent.

The Honda Player of the Month and Honda Goalie of the Month is a monthly feature during the 2022-23 season that honors the top performing player and goalie in the LHSHL.
