East Lake forward, Newsome goalie each earn monthly honor.

The Lightning High School Hockey League (LHSHL) today announced the Stars of the Month, presented by Honda, for the month of October.

East Lake’s George Brkljacic was named the Honda Player of the Month, and Newsome Wolves’ Dylan Dykstra was named the Honda Goalie of the Month.

Brkljacic, a forward for East Lake, posted 16 points in five games in October to sit among the league leaders in the LHSHL. He scored eight goals in those four games, and had at least one point in each game. He posted four goals in a seven point performance on October 21st against the Tampa 92s.

Behind Brkljacic, East Lake won every game in October, finishing 6-0-0 while outscoring their opponents 47 to 13. The Eagles currently lead the Bradley Division with an 8-0-1 record.

Dykstra was among the league leaders in the LHSHL for goalies with three wins in October. His 1.66 goals against average and .921 save percentage were among the league's best during the second month of the year. His top performance was a 25 save effort in a 3-2 win against Mitchell on October 21st.

With Dykstra leading the way, the Wolves finished October with a 7-0-0 record while allowing two goals or fewer in each game. Newsome allowed only eight goals in those seven games and now sit second in the Modin Division with a 9-1-0 record.

The Honda Player of the Month and Honda Goalie of the Month is a monthly feature during the 2022-23 season that honors the top performing player and goalie in the LHSHL.
