First Full Weekend of Season Gets Underway

All 22 teams hit the ice for LHSHL play over Friday and Saturday night.

Big comebacks, strong goaltending, and a seven point game paced this weekend of LHSHL action.

Mitchell 3, Land O’ Lakes 2

Recap: Logan Hawes had three assists as Mitchell opened their season with a 3-2 win over Land O’ Lakes. Diego Juan had a goal and an assist for the Mustangs, while Edward Kotula stopped 22 of 24 shots in the win. Kane Eaves and Yiorgos Bikakis also scored for Mitchell. Troy Bryan and Devonte Krizka each scored for Land O’ Lakes, while Mikhail Dumenko stopped 18 shots.

Palm Harbor 10, Tampa 92’s 4

Recap: A four goal first period helped lead Palm Harbor to a 10-4 win in their first game of the season. Ben Reimer and Jan Zeman each had four points in the win, while Connor Hill, Gabriel Dollmont and Avery Altieri each had two. Luca Petrulli stopped 16 of 20 shots for Palm Harbor. Braden Kozlowski had a hat trick for the 92’s, while Benjamin Jardine stopped 29 shots in net.

Jesuit 5, Freedom 1

Recap: Jesuit scored 5 straight to open the game on their way to a 5-1 win over Freedom on Friday night. JJ Prince scored twice, while three other Tigers each pocketed a goal. Gregory Politis stopped 25 of 26 shots in the win. Andrew Karch scored the lone goal for Freedom, and Leland Cigarran made 35 saves for the Patriots.

Plant 6, Manatee 5

Recap: A big second period helped guide Plant to a 6-5 comeback win over Manatee. Facing a 4-1 deficit, the Panthers scored three straight to close the second period tied at four. Sean Murphy’s power play goal was the game winner for Plant midway through the third period, with Cayden Hardie’s assist his fourth point of the night. Hardie also had a hat trick for the Panthers, while Charles Abel picked up the win in net. Nicholas Kelly had three points for Manatee.

Jenkins 2, River Ridge 0

Recap: A dominant performance in net from Andrew Braciszewski paced Jenkins to a 2-0 win over River Ridge on Friday night. In a classic goaltending duel, Braciszewski stopped all 35 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season. Chase Evanecky and Jacob Lloren scored for Jenkins in the win, their first of the season. Carter Lindquist stopped 26 of 28 shots he faced for River Ridge.

Seminole 5, Newsome Wolverines 1

Recap: Seminole continued their strong start to the season with a 5-1 win over the Newsome Wolverines on Friday night. Zachary Bahret had three points for the Sharks, and Shea Beesley scored twice. Oliver Spaulding had 22 saves on 23 shots in the win. Brandon Vogt had 33 saves for the Wolverines, while Christopher Iannicelli scored the lone goal.

Wiregrass 5, East Lake 5

Recap: Two strong teams went back and forth on Friday night, ending in a 5-5 tie between Wiregrass and East Lake. Both teams were tied three times before Wiregrass opened up a 5-3 lead in the third. Kyran Stahlke scored twice in the final frame for East Lake to tie the game at 5, and added an assist for a three point night. Terence Levasseur had two goals and an assist for Wiregrass, while Erik Williams stopped 18 shots.

Palmetto 11, Berkeley 0

Recap: An eight goal second period paced Palmetto to an 11-0 win over Berkeley on Friday night. Nicholas Ansbro had a hat trick and four points, while Hayden Stratman and Tyler Stephens each had two goals and an assist. Ethan Fischer stopped eight shots for the shutout. Elle Hunter made 16 saves for Berkeley.

Bloomingdale 5, Tampa Catholic 2

Recap: A strong start led Bloomingdale to their second win of the season, a 5-2 win over Tampa Catholic. Connor Mcduffie had two goals and an assist for the Bulls, Samuel Canty made 11 saves in the win. Matthew Killen had a point on both goals for Tampa Catholic.

Riverview 4, Newsome 3

Recap: Riverview became the first team to take down the defending LHSHL champions with a 4-3 win over Newsome on Friday night. Tyler Hoffberg had two goals and an assist in the win for the Sharks, while Patrick Boyle made 26 saves. Dylan Dykstra made 15 saves for Newsome.

Riverview 2-0-0, Newsome 1-1-0

Palm Harbor 5, Mitchell 2

Recap: Palm Harbor raced out to a 3-0 lead and held on to a 5-2 win on Saturday against Mitchell. Logan Slezak and Jan Zeman had three points for Palm Harbor, while Chase Brown had 19 saves in the win. Carter Trussler and Aleksei Petrov each scored for Mitchell.

Records: Palm Harbor 2-0-0, Mitchell 1-1-0

Land O’ Lakes 6, Jenkins 1

Recap: A five goal second period paced Land O’ Lakes to a Saturday win over Jenkins. Five different skaters scored for Land O’ Lakes, while 11 players picked up a point. Tristan Hilliard made 23 saves on 24 shots in the win. Preston Peterson scored the lone goal for Jenkins.

Durant 3, River Ridge 2

Recap: Ethan Carstens scored the game winning goal late in the third and Durant picked up a 3-2 win over River Ridge on Saturday. Carstens had a point on all three goals for the Cougars, while Connor Humphrey made 22 saves on 24 shots. Cayden Faircloth had two points for River Ridge, and Carter Lindquist stopped 24 shots.

Wiregrass 12, Tampa Catholic 1

Recap: Wiregrass led from start to finish in a 12-1 win over Tampa Catholic. Sean Campbell and Austin Lowery each had three points, while 11 different players each had a goal for Wiregrass. Connor Johnson stopped 35 of 47 shots for Tampa Catholic.

Riverview 4, Bloomingdale 1

Recap: Riverview took a 4-1 win over Bloomingdale in a battle of undefeated teams on Saturday. Nick Macri had two goals, while Tyler Hoffberg had two assists for the Sharks. Patrick Boyle stopped 18 of 19 shots in the win for Riverview. Jacob Otto made 30 saves for Bloomingdale, while Aiden Locicero scored for the Bulls.

Jesuit 5, Freedom 2

Recap: Jesuit swept a weekend series against Freedom with a 5-2 win on Saturday, their second win in two nights against the Patriots. Cameron Grande had two points for the Tigers, while Gregory Politis made 26 saves in the win. Leland Cigarran stopped 35 of 40 shots for Freedom.

Steinbrenner 15, Berkeley 1

Recap: A seven goal first period guided Steinbrenner to a 15-1 win over Berkeley on Saturday. Vincent Vedmed led the way for the Warriors with a seven point day, including a hat trick, while Ari Blatt and Alivia Peterlin also had a hat trick and an assist each. Elle Hunter made 42 saves for Berkeley.
