Rain or Shine. EDP Wins

What’s up family

40 days ago, Tom and I left Tampa with our bags packed. We literally filled our suitcases to capacity because for the next month and a half we were going to be living on the road for EDP.  The Jr/Sr team is in Chicago this weekend for the finale, of what I am calling, The Gauntlet of 2019. But before we finally get to go back to Tampa and sleep in our own beds, we have the Windy City Spring Classic!

It’s that time of year again for prom, AP exams, and graduation so EDP was limited to 9 skaters and a tendy for this tournament. The 9 we have been playing like monsters and the scoreboards are reflecting just that.

The boys played their first game last night and did not disappoint. They took the lead early but wound up losing 3-2. Anthony Samarkos stood on his head all night and the 3-4 defenders we had did their best to protect him all night. EDP had their chances, they even scored down 3-1 with the net empty but just couldn’t find the back of the net again before the clock struck triple zero’s.

The next day, aka today. Was a new day for the boys. Dylan Southern opened the scoring of the game with an absolute snipe. About four minutes later, the Chicago Blues, tied it up. The game went back and forth all game. The other team was clicking but no need to fear, because sometime between the 2nd and 3rd period. The sky got dark, the thunder started to rumble, and rain came down the size of golf balls and it only made sense that it was time for the Lightning to shine. The final period of play began knotted up at 2. The Blues we able to score and take the lead early but they left tooooooo much time on the clock for EDP.

Down a goal with 1:39 left in the game. Demetri Samarkos scored his second of the game to tie things up at 3! 42 seconds later, at even strength and 57 ticks left in the game, known tough guy, Nathan Bennett gave EDP the lead. Assisted by Eric Bowles and Colin Saar.

Demetri got his hatty and put the final nail in the coffin with 30 seconds left.

It was a great team win. To be a team with a full bench when you could literally lie down on the bench in between shifts is something you love to see. The boys fought all 45 min and the final result showed that.

They look to go 2-1 with their second game today at 8:50 PM CST
