LIGHTNING ALUM FILIP KUBA JOINS HIGH SCHOOL

ELITE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM COACHING STAFF

TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning’s (High School) Elite Development Program (EDP) announced today that former Bolts defenseman Filip Kuba has been named head coach of the freshman/sophomore (open to all players meeting the criteria for the Under-16 age group) team entering the 2019-20 season.

Drafted by the Florida Panthers at the 1995 NHL Draft, Kuba played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League from 1998-2013 with the Lightning, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, and Florida Panthers. In 2004, Kuba was selected as an NHL All-Star as a member of the Wild. Kuba appeared in 836 games, recording 70 goals and 333 points. He was also a part of Team Czech Republic for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, and the 2010 winter games in Vancouver.

The Czech national has called the Tampa Bay area home for the last several years. In that time, he has remained active in the local youth hockey community. He has coached in the Scorpions Organization for the U14 age group and has had immense success, advancing to the 2018-19 USA Hockey National Championships at the U14AA level.

The EDP is open exclusively to active players within the Lightning High School Hockey League. Kuba assumes the position formerly held by fellow Bolts alum Adam Hall.  Hall will now join the coaching staff of the Junior/Senior (U18) EDP team as an associate head coach, alongside former Tampa Bay forward Nikita Alexeev. Tryouts for the 2019-20 EDP Program will be held in September.
