TAMPA BAY – The Lightning High School Hockey League (LHSHL) today named Jesuit senior forward Joshua Burke as the league’s Honda Player of the Month for December. Additionally, the league announced Berkeley Prep freshman Heath Chancey as Goalie of the Month.

Jesuit’s Burke scored eight goals and chipped in five assists for 13 points, and also recorded two hat tricks on the month. Two of the eight goals the junior forward scored came on the power play and Burke recorded a shorthanded goal, too. Burke leads Jesuit in scoring with 33 goals and 25 assists for a total of 58 points on the season.

Chancey helped Berkeley win its first regular-season game in over three seasons, after the freshman goaltender recorded a 41-save shutout over George-Jenkins last month (3-0). Chancey totaled 137 saves in just three starts for Berkeley during December, which was an average of 45 saves per-game.

Burke and Chancey will each receive a personal replica trophy to recognize their accomplishments, along with their names engraved on the permanent award that will be given to both the Honda Player of the Year and General Mills Goalie of the Year at the end of the season.

Additionally, the LHSHL named East Lake junior defenseman Demitri Samarkos as the league’s Honda Player of the Month for January, and Jesuit senior goaltender Paul Coats as the General Mills Goalie of the Month.

East Lake’s Samarkos recorded five goals and added one helper for six points in two games played. The junior also had a hat trick against East Manatee during the month of January, and three of the six points the senior defenseman posted came on the power play. Samarkos had one game-winning goal, too.

Coats recorded a 2-0-0 record for Jesuit during January and helped the team improve to 16-3-2 on the season. The senior netminder posted a 2.50 goals-against-average in the two games played, and Coats now leads all LHSHL goaltenders with 13 wins on the year, thus far.

Samarkos and Coats will each receive a personal replica trophy to recognize their accomplishments, along with their names engraved on the permanent award that will be given to both the Honda Player of the Year and General Mills Goalie of the Year at the end of the season.
